    Step 1 - Get a LJ Account. Step 3 - Profit!
So now I'm on step 2, which boils down to "cook well enough and consistently enough that people will hire you to do it!"

I had a good lunch with [info]gailg last week during her brief Bay Area visit before school starts up again. She had some good advice about limiting my liability, and what I might need to do to make myself legal to cook for others, and protect myself financially.

I've also gotten myself a phone number for people to call in and schedule my services 24/7 - I haven't set it up yet, but when I do I'll let y'all know. I purchased Visio so I can start diagramming the call flow, so I should be able to start coding that soon. Yes, I know this is Step 1 stuff, which doesn't directly lead to step 3, but I'm a geek, so I have to :-)

Also trying to get in touch with a few family members who are enrolled or enrolling in chef school, so I can get some idea of what to expect!

    Welcome to Diamond_Chef!
No, I'm not a chef yet, but this is where I'll talk about becoming one. Many thanks to [info]ronebofh for suggesting the name!

This journal is where I'll talk about my journey to becoming a professional chef. In accordance with LiveJournal's terms of service it is NOT:

    • Where I will solicit customers - people who want to hire my services (should I be so lucky :-) will be gently redirected to search for proper commercial venues

    • Links to business-related websites or phone numbers, once I have such things, as they may profit me. In fact, just to be safe, any posts that contain such info will be promptly deleted.

    • A base for spam - big duh

So far, I've just been surfing .gov websites to figure out just what it is I'll need to do to got my business set up, how much are filing fees, what are the tax and health laws.

I've pretty much decided on Tanta Marie's cooking school in San Francisco, but there's another one that just opened up in Saratoga that looks to be equally good. I'd like to find one that will allow night or part-time classes, so I can have at least limited income while I take classes.
